Jacob & Co. Unveils The Opera Scarface Musical Watch

Jacob Arabo began his journey in the world of fine jewelry and timepieces as a 16-year old apprentice. A short time later, Jacob opened a small booth in New York City’s bustling diamond district and began designing collections for jewelry brands and private clients. In 1986, Arabo launched his own luxury label, Jacob & Co.

From midtown Manhattan where he established his flagship retail location to Moscow and the corners of the world, Jacob’s jewelry and timepieces have become iconic expressions for his clients. Inspired by the impossible, he is energized by the creative challenge of envisioning and realizing new jewelry and timepiece designs that will continue to intrigue and invite fans and followers to enjoy his creations.

Jacob & Co is the Collaborating with Universal Pictures to obtain the rights to use the name and likeness of Al Pacino, star of the famed Scarface movie, as well as other elements, Jacob & Co. is creating two versions of the highly complicated watch, which – with the push of a button – plays the Scarface movie melody, Bolivia Theme.

Scarface, which, as mentioned, starred Al Pacino, premiered in 1983 and was an immediate hit. The crime drama was written by Oliver Stone, directed by Brian De Palma and produced by Martin Bregman. It was a remake of a 1932 story, and starred Pacino as Cuban refugee Tony Montana who came to Miami penniless and became a powerful drug lord. For its time, the movie was one of the highest grossing films despite (or maybe because of) its violence and drug scenes. Over the years, though, the movie – wherein Montana came to be known as Scarface — has come to be a cult film.

Building upon the brand’s famed Opera collection, the new Opera Scarface features an integrated 120-note music box and strikes a truly powerful note. Just press the pusher at 10 o’clock and the timepiece starts playing the “Bolivia” theme from the 1983 American crime drama, while the entire dial rotates 120 degrees. Throughout these theatrics, the time display remains in the correct 12/6 position thanks to a patented differential system.

The watch is powered by Jacob & Co.’s trademark triple-axis tourbillon movement that’s wound by the 18K rose gold violin-shaped crank on the side of the watch. The movement features a tourbillon that turns in 24 seconds on one axis, eight seconds on the second and 72 seconds on the third. And smack bang in the middle of the movement is an 18K rose gold “The World is Yours” globe, which mirrors the one found in the entrance hall of Tony Montana’s Miami mansion.

The Opera Scarface watch is limited to just 88 pieces and available now through the Jacob & Co. website.
